What Nitrogen for Air Conditioning Is Used For
- Pipe-line purging before brazing — flushing copper refrigerant lines with OFN to prevent oxide scale forming inside the pipe during brazing, which would otherwise contaminate the refrigerant circuit
- Pressure leak-testing sealed systems — pressurising newly-installed split systems to 30-40 bar (or higher per spec) to confirm joint integrity before charging with refrigerant
- Refrigerant recovery prep — purging recovery lines between jobs to prevent cross-contamination
- Pipework modification on live plant — purging during HVAC retrofit work to maintain F-Gas compliance
- Vacuum-pump assist — some installers use a small N2 cylinder to break vacuum before disconnect
Cylinder Size Quick Guide
- 2L / 9L — mobile installers, single split-system jobs in the van
- 20L — workshop or multi-job day, balanced weight vs capacity
- 50L — workshop standard, multi-bay or commercial refrigeration installs
- 9 or 16-cylinder MCP — refrigeration plant, large HVAC contractors
F-Gas Compliance and OFN Spec
All Oxygen-Free Nitrogen in our range is food-grade purity (BS 4366 / EIGA equivalent), which exceeds typical HVAC purging requirements. Cylinders ship with a current GA certificate where required for site documentation.
