What does it cost to become a stockist?

Your initial investment will vary, depending on the range you want to stock and your location. There is no joining or admin fee. The outlay only relates to the type and quantity of gas and the delivery charges to your specific location.

What is the “rent-free” gas model?

Unlike traditional cylinder hire, Adams Gas customers simply buy their gas, pay a refundable deposit and then pay to refill or exchange it, with no ongoing rental charges. It’s a model customers prefer, and it brings them back to you for refills.

What else can we sell?

You will be able to stock and sell regulators for helium and welding gas uses. If your customers need other welding products or consumables we can provide you with suppliers’ details that they can contact directly.

Do I need to stock every type of gas?

No. You can start with the gas types that suit your customers, for example propane and patio gas for a forecourt, or welding gas and CO2 for a hardware store, and expand your range over time. Our most successful stockists do stock a wide range, and they see the benefit of bringing in new customers which, in turn, increases sales on their original business offering.

If we go ahead and order a mix of cylinders and we only have a turnover on a few types, will we be credited for full returns?

Yes, no problem. We do not want you sitting on stock that is not moving.

Do I need to sell a minimum amount for my territory?

We give stockist dedicated areas, inside which we will not open another stockist. The minimum turnover after the first year would be 20 cylinders per month. If you were below this and another opportunity arose, we would discuss the options with you before opening a new stockist. To date we have not enforced this.

How do I store the bottles?

We provide storage information during onboarding. Keep cylinders secure, prevent them from falling and keep them away from public access. Outdoor storage in a public area needs suitable secure protection, such as a cage.

Arrange a risk assessment for the gases, quantities and premises before you begin storing cylinders. The assessment must address ventilation, ignition sources and separation of incompatible gases. An indoor space being draughty does not by itself establish that it is suitable. Follow the relevant safety data sheets and storage guidance.

How are deliveries handled?

Orders are dispatched via pallet couriers through our distribution network so you can keep refilling and exchanging cylinders for your customers. Your local arrangements are confirmed during onboarding.

What equipment will I need?

We only deliver pallets and offload by tail lift and pallet truck so you will need either a pallet truck (for max weight 1,000 kg) or a forklift truck (for max weight 1,500 kg).

What insurance or permits do I need?

Tell your public liability insurer that you plan to stock gas and check whether your cover needs adjusting. Confirm any permissions and safety signage required for your premises, the gases and quantities you intend to store. We provide product information to support your assessment during onboarding.

What other health and safety issues do I need to be aware of?

You will be provided with access to product safety data sheets for your own use and to be issued to your customer (on first purchase only). There is also a full suite of information for safety, transport and storage that you will have access to via our website.

How do we assess damage to valves?

Damage is usually obvious, i.e. broken handles or broken valves. This cost would be taken from your customer when he exchanges the empty for a full.

What if a customer reports the cylinder was not full at time of purchase, do cylinders come sealed?

How do we determine if there was leakage?

The cylinders come with a heat shrink seal. On average we only get 1 in 1000 as a faulty cylinder. We work on a trust basis, if you believe the customer is correct, we advise you to swap the bottle over and attach a faulty bottle sticker, which we would send to you.

You can obtain this by sending us an email with Cylinder Size, gas type and a description of the fault.

Once we have received the cylinder back, we will update you on the issue and provide a refund to your account if appropriate.
