TIG Gas
TIG gas is pure argon — the shielding gas for TIG welding steel, stainless and aluminium. Adams Gas supplies pure argon rent-free, in hobby to trade sizes.
Benefits & features
Full MIG/TIG/mix range
Pure argon for TIG and aluminium, argon/CO2 mix for MIG on steel, and pure CO2 as the budget option — all in stock.
Rent-free cylinders
No monthly hire and no contract, unlike the big-brand rental model. Pay for the gas plus a one-off refundable deposit only.
Fast cylinder exchange
Swap an empty for a full cylinder of the same gas and size in minutes — no waiting on a slow on-site refill.
Why TIG runs on pure argon
TIG demands a clean, fully inert shield, so pure argon is the standard across materials — mild steel, stainless and aluminium alike. There is no CO2 in TIG gas: any reactive content would contaminate the weld pool and spoil the bead.
- Steel & stainless TIG — pure argon for a stable, clean arc.
- Aluminium TIG — pure argon again; the same cylinder covers all three materials.
- Aluminium MIG — also pure argon, which is why one argon bottle does double duty in many workshops.
For MIG on mild steel you want an argon/CO2 mix instead.
The job the argon does
In TIG welding the argon streams from the torch around the tungsten electrode and over the weld pool, locking the air out so the molten metal cannot oxidise. Because argon is inert it never reacts with the weld, which is exactly what TIG needs for a tidy, contamination-free bead.
Browse argon cylinders or arrange an argon refill when your bottle runs low.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use argon/CO2 for TIG?
No — TIG needs pure argon. CO2 in the mix would contaminate the weld pool and spoil the bead.
Same argon for steel and aluminium TIG?
Yes — pure argon shields steel, stainless and aluminium TIG, so one cylinder covers all three.
Is TIG argon rent-free?
Yes — every Adams Gas argon cylinder is rent-free. You pay for the gas and a one-off refundable deposit, with no annual hire charge.
