Which welding gas for which job
MIG on mild steel typically uses an argon/CO2 mix for a clean, low-spatter arc; pure CO2 is the cheaper alternative with deeper penetration and more spatter. TIG and aluminium welding need pure argon. Not sure? Our guides break it down by job, or our team will match a cylinder to your work.
Which welding gas for which job
MIG on mild steel: an argon/CO2 mix is the workshop standard — argon stabilises the arc while a little CO2 adds penetration, giving clean welds with low spatter. Pure CO2 welds the same steel for less but spatters more.
TIG and aluminium: use pure argon. TIG needs a fully inert shield, and aluminium MIG runs on pure argon too — any CO2 in the mix would contaminate the weld.
