First, the fuel gas: propane or propylene?

Both are LPG-family fuel gases, both are stable and easy to store, and both run on the same regulator and nozzle family, so one fuel-gas set covers you either way. The short version: propane is the most economical choice for steady cutting, heating and lead work, while propylene burns hotter and reaches cutting temperature faster, which suits heavier sections and higher-throughput cutting. Match the kit to the job

What is in a kit, and what you will add

A ready-made oxy-fuel kit typically brings the parts that must be matched to each other: the torch handle, a cutting or heating attachment, fuel-gas and oxygen nozzles, twin hoses (blue for oxygen, orange for fuel), and flashback arrestors. What you add around it:

  2. A fuel-gas cylinder: propane, or propylene in 2L, 10L or 20L.
  3. An oxygen cylinder: sized to the workload (see below).

The kit is a one-off purchase; the gas is the running cost, so size the cylinders to how you work.
